Moment of Truth – Radio Billboard with a lil Animation – OOOUUUUUU YESS

Hi everyone , okay so this is my proudest moment in Motion Graphics because an idea that I had, actually turned out better than I expected for the most part. Watching some of these tutorials made my head spin, because it wasn’t showing me exactly what I wanted. My biggest issue was getting the music to work, because After Effects was distorting the music.

  • So let me give you an overview on what my project is about. I was inspired by radio stations Power 105.1 radio billboard poster. So I chose to create my own version –

View post on

This is the poster I was inspired by

I used Nicki Minaj, Fabolous, and T.I in my poster

Below are the originals photos that I used

  • I also changed the background image from this

To this Using Half-Tone patterns and then using Saturation. This was done to re-create the little dot pattern like in the original poster

  • Next I used the pen tool to cut out all the celebrities from their backgroundsMy nicki Minaj cut out that I did in PhotoShop

Next I used the Pen tool tool to cut the rest of my Assets

After I did that I used the pen tool to cut out the black bars

Once all my assets were cut out and my celebrities were in place, then I was ready to upload my project into After Effects.

I did face trial and error, in the beginning. I was using photos of artist that were not right in size, I had to change my artist.

  • One of the attributes that became key in making this final project was using the Opacity tool – To fade the out the artist to become more transparent to be able to see the city through them was important.
  • Also layering the artist in a way that got rid of the straight line look, I didn’t want the defined look.

  • In After Effects I used the scale tool to create the numbers in a blinking effect
  • And I used the position key to make the black bars move up and down
  • I saved my After Effects as a mov. and uploaded my layers into photoshop and then I saved for Web to make it into a GIF and then I uploaded it into Imgur – Which you can see if you scroll to the end screen-shot-2016-12-19-at-12-39-13-pm screen-shot-2016-12-19-at-12-39-03-pm screen-shot-2016-12-19-at-12-34-02-pm screen-shot-2016-12-19-at-12-33-54-pm screen-shot-2016-12-19-at-11-34-45-am screen-shot-2016-12-19-at-10-42-21-am

These are the tutorials that I watched using animations for text

My final poster I uploaded to Imgur. I initially wanted a mov. file so the music could play with it and make into a gif

This is the mp3 of Missy Elliot’s song work it that I got from Youtube and converted it into a mp3 form. I am going to try and add the mov. into adobe premier since I could not get it to work in After Effects

Update – final project for power 105.1

Hey, everyone so I have finished all of my assets. I have added my background layer, I even took my time and used the pen tool to cut out the word power from the logo.

So Below is a picture of the original background I chose to go with. I like this picture because, in my opinion, it is a great shot of the city from above. It is has a certain gritty feel to it. Very urban in my eyes. I also used the stamp clone tool to get rid of the little watermark in the upper right hand corner on my background picture. If nothing else I learned early when it comes to motion graphics that it is important to pay attention to details. It can be the smallest thing you change within your animation that makes the biggest difference.

I learned about magazine prints, and half-tones today. So I downloaded a png image from on-line and worked on it in a separate composition, and created a pattern overlay.

The cool thing with about is that it helped to recreate the original power 105 poster, but I am putting my own creativity and vision on it as well.

So I changed the color using the saturation tool in photoshop.

Lastly for today, I began to add in my celebrity faces to the logo advertisement. I had to use the pen tool and eraser to cut the celebrities out from there background.

So This is the final color blue that I am going to be using, I still have 3 more celebrity faces to add and blend. Upon completion of adding my celebrity faces, I will work on my last step, which comes in After Effects with making the bars and numbers bounce to a beat.

I also use the Opacity tool to fade the celebrity faces a bit as well, by changing the setting to 74%. You can look below and above to see the before/after effect.

Okay, so I used the pen tool in Photoshop, and carefully cut out each number out of the logo, to get the black bars to stand alone.  I created 7 different layers thus far. The next step is finishing the other 2 bars and getting the instrumental to use in after effects to make the bars jump to the beat –

I went back and cleaned up my 0 as well – I made sure I named all of my layers

screen-shot-2016-11-28-at-5-16-45-pmOne of the black bars standing alone – I am working on the other 2. But these are the first steps to completing all of my assets. I already have my 3 celebrities that I am using for the billboard – as I mentioned in my other post. But I am getting busy and working on actually building the poster and putting it all together.

update on final project / my assets and building my final project

Okay guys so this is the original poster that I will be duplicating into my own version. Basically rebuilding this billboard poster.

  • Power 105.1 (numbers only)
  • the 3 black bars in the back of the power 105.1 sign( the 3 black bars is apart of the radio stations signature)
  • the landscape in the background
  • the slogan to the side
  • and the 3 times listed on the bottom to the right
  • also 3 different celebrities in the poster

I have been watching some videos on youtube, because I am going to make each black bar bounce to the beat individually. That is why I must rebuild the poster from scratch basically. Another thing I must do is researching the font that is being used for the poster, or finding a font that is close enough.

  1. So its the three individual black bars I am going to make bounce to the beat of the intro music
  2. The power 105.1 will move as a whole unit
  3.  & the slogan I want that to move as a unit as well

the power

These are 2 different backgrounds that I am still choosing between. Both are shots of NY but from different perspectives. I am leaning towards option B.

My 3 celebrities I have chosen for my assets in the billboard are: Mary J. Blige, Trey Songz , and Fabolous.

I am currently working on building my 3 black bars in photoshop, and researching the typography for the billboard poster.

some of the tutorials that I watch is for my final project is:

The first video I like because it helps explain how to make animated text bounce to a beat which is what I am doing wth the billboard

just watch the first 11 seconds of the intro this what I want to create but with the assets I mentioned before.
